Everyone asks me what’s my favorite kite spot in the world, and until now I’ve always answered the same: Cumbuco-Cauipe.
Everyone asks me what’s my favorite kite spot in the world, and until now I’ve always answered the same: Cumbuco-Cauipe.
But why is Cumbuco-Cauipe the best place for me? First of all, I still haven’t been to a place that gives me the feeling I have as soon as I get the to the lagoon. In the video you can see how much fun it is to kite here. For me, what makes it more special is the nature around the lagoon, the conditions, the people, the atmosphere and to watch the sun go down from the water.
The cooler and cheaper way to get to the lagoon is going downwind. The downwinders are fun, you can work on your speed skills and play on the waves all the way down, until you get there. If you are with a group, it’s even nicer – there will be always someone to help, in case you need one. As soon as you get to the lagoon, if it’s your first time there and you don’t know how the system works, try to ask someone to advice you; someone who has been here and knows how it works.
In the lagoon we have three different areas:
* The Teaching area: all the way upwind, where you get in the lagoon, if you come downwind.
* The Pro area: where everyone jumps and does tricks. I don’t advice you to kite there, as you can get hit by a kite on your head or tangle with someone.
* The Beginners area: if you just learned how to kite by yourself, you have two options: stay all the way upwind, where the Teaching area is, or go downwind of the Pro area. These are safe places for beginners to kite. Other than that you can sit on the beach and watch the show that goes on all day long, until the sun goes down. Enjoy!
